During this edition of Barcelona Christmas Fair, different parallel activities are organized, such as traditional Christmas parade. Also, next to the Fair of Santa Llúcia, less than 100 meters away, at the Frederic Marès Museum, will be installed 35 figures up to 40 centimeters high! Among them there will be a giant Tió de Nadal, called cagatió, which will give gifts for all the boys and girls in Barcelona! It is a Catalan Christmas tradition, which attracts locals and visitors for its originality. All the children who are under 12 years old will be able to make the tió poop, following the tradition where the children hit the trunk while they sing the popular song until the trunk gives them some gifts.
Santa Llúcia Christmas Fair dates back to 1786 when it was held at the Feast of Santa Llúcia, on December 13. Saint Lucia was known as the patron saint of praying to the saint. During this time, this market also had the name of "Girls Fair", because many people believed that single girls went there in search of their future husbands. Today, Santa Llúcia Fair is a magical place where everyone can go to buy gifts, attend activities and enjoy the Christmas spirit.
We advise you to visit the Fair 2 times, during the day and the night, then you can go to the Plaza de San Jaume where an original Christmas peserbe is installed every year. The Santa Llúcia Christmas Fair will be open from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm during the week and until 9:30 pm on weekends and holidays. If you´ve decided to visit Barcelona you can always stay in Two Sisters Apartments in the popular and comercial neighborhood of Sant Antoni.
