One more year the CCCB (Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona) brings us the international exhibition on photojournalism, this time with an advanced date because Barcelona is one of the first stops of the exhibition. The new edition of World Press Photo, is installed at the CCCB with 143 winning photographs and a complete program of parallel activities and visits commented to deepen the important themes shown during the exhibitions. Under the motto "To see is to understand", it is an essential example of visual narration, both for the quality of the photographs and for the debate they generate. One more year we see that reality always surpasses fiction, as it is shown in the most powerful winning photograph of the assassination of the Russian ambassador in an art gallery in Ankara, Turkey.
Beyond the media, the World Press Photo also reaches out to those who are left voiceless: among the winners we can find portraits of ethnic minorities such as Sioux Indians, mentally ill people forgotten in Africa, racial protests in the USA, children with zika virus in Latin America, victims of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, vicitims of religious problems in Pakistan, refugees trying to reach Europe...
World Press Photo is an unavoidable event for photography lovers, wich has become one of the most important exhibitions of culture and visual journalism in Barcelona. An opportunity to understand the world´s problems, get informed and question the reality that surrounds us. The winning photographs have been chosen from among the 80,404 images that have been presented to contest, made by 5,034 photographers from 125 countries.
The Photographic Social Vision Foundation expands the World Press Photo with guided tours, workshops and other activities to generate debate about the world´s values and the challenges of photojournalism, to deepen the themes of the winning projects. The Spanish photographer Jaime Rojo, the winner of the 3rd prize in the category "Nature", gives a multimedia conference and also projects the winning audiovisual works of the Digital Narrative Contest. These activities are free for all the audiences. As a novelty, the event presents a cycle of activities directed exclusively to photo professionals. Photographic Social Vision has scheduled a meeting with the photojournalist Santi Palacios (the winner of the 2nd prize in the category of "Current Issues") and a marketing masterclass given by the expert Marc Prüst.
