From Abril 27 to May 6, Barcelona brings a little bit of Andalusia and holds its own April Fair with lots of dances and performances, following the famous Feria de Abril of Sevilla! Feria de Abril in Barcelona, organized by the Federation of Andalusian Cultural Entities in Catalonia (FECAC), will be officially inaugurated on Friday, April 27, with the enclosure´s lights turned on in front of the blue building at 9:00 pm. This will be the 14th year that Feria de Abril is celebrated in the Fòrum Barcelonés, though it has also been celebrated in Catalonia for 47 years. The schedule of Feria de Abril will be extended until midnight on working days and until 3:30 am on weekends. There will be 54,000 square meters of thematic booths or "casetas", as well as 29,000 square meters of the attractions for all the audiences.
Feria de Abril in Barcelona has 2 main areas and themes. The 1st theme is the fairground area that features a big ferris wheel and different attractions typical to fairs, such as candy-floss, shooting galleries and etc. The fairground is usually on the seafront near the Banys Forum bathing area so you can enjoy fabulous views of the Barcelona coastline and city from the ferris wheel.
The 2nd and main theme and area of Feria de Abril in Barcelona is the "casetas" area, these are marquee temporarily tents. There are around 70 casetas operated by a variety of organisations, in each one you will find visitors eating, singing and above all dancing the traditional Andalusian Sevillanas. You can enter for free in any of the casetas that represent different regions and provinces of Spain and enjoy the show and try traditional food and drinks such as Jerez sherry, manzanilla wine and tapas. The biggest caseta of Feria de Abril in Barcelona is la Caseta de la Fecac which is the organiser's caseta where you can find a series of free concerts and shows starring top Spanish singers and performers. Many of the dancers at Feria de Abril in Barcelona wear traditional costumes specially made for the fair. Men wear the traditional traje de corto (short jacket, tight trousers and boots) and ladies wear flamenco style dress.
