Barcelona has become the center of a wide range of activities linked to the world of architecture and the citylife during these days, aimed at promoting architectural activities, knowledge, discussions and debates to boost the public’s appreciation of urban environment. Thanks to all this, and the fact that other organisations and institutions will be taking part too, an extensive programme of events has been put together, featuring films and architecture events, talks, routes, competitions in all the districts.
Barcelona certainly has an everyday heritage of undeniable value in its urban architecture. The city unites in its architecture Gothic and Roman styles, Catalan Modernism and Contemporary buildings. Architecture is a part of Barcelona’s residents´ lives, so Architecture Week aims to strengthen this essential bond between the architecture and the public. The events aim to enable the city residents and visitors to find out about their nearest architectural activity and discover together the built-up city’s uses, spaces and transformations.
Some of the activities provided for the Architecture Week will be:
- Cinema: A film series has been organized, together with the Filmoteca de Catalunya, which will pay tribute to relevant women in the world of architecture and urbanism. Also, various films that show local architecture and are released in Barcelona, will be projected in different civic centers.
- Exhibitions: There will be architectural models of concrete works in unusual spaces such as cinemas, theaters, markets, libraries and the Hospital Vall d´Hebron. There will also be exhibitions at the Palau de la Virreina and the College of Architects of Catalonia.
- Palau de Victoria Eugènia will be open to public for the first time at the Montjuïc fairgrounds, to present the models of the projects presented at the Mies van der Rohe Prize.
