110 years Palau de la Música
Palau de la Música
Palau de la Música Catalana celebrates 110 years of history in an exhibition that can be seen in the Foyer of the building until May 15. For an amazing stay in Barcelona, take a look at beautiful apartments by Two Sisters Apartments in the neighborhood of Sant Antoni!
If we had to name 3 Catalan modernist buildings in Barcelona, we feel sure that the Palau de la Música would appear first! The concert hall was designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and constructed between 1905 and 1908. It first opened its doors 110 years ago and over that time famous musicians from all over the world have appeared on its stage. The building was commissioned by the Orfeó Català, a choir that was founded in 1891 by Lluís Millet and Amadeu Vives. An exhibition inaugurated on 6 March, which can be seen in the Foyer of the Palau until 15 May, is commemorating the building’s anniversary and provides information on its construction and the restoration work that has been carried out over the years.
The exhibition is named Tthe construction of the Palau de la Música Catalana and its preservation". 110 years of history (1908-2018) is an initiative by the Orfeó Català Documentation Centre (CEDOC), with support and collaboration of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). The visitor will find numerous old photographs, press documents, correspondence and even contracts and bills related to the building and restoration work. Most of these items are on display here for the first time. If you´ve decided to visit Barcelona you can always stay in Two Sisters Apartments and enjoy the city and its offers!
